You will be pleased to hear that our Charity Auction which we held at the Hilton Hotel on Friday 25 April raised just over £10,000 (double the amount raised at our previous auction in 2005, which is absolutely amazing. This money will be put towards our "Moving Soon" Appeal, which now stands at over £330,000 out of £500,000 needed to build a new MS Centre in Swindon.
We auctioned over 100 items and would like to thank all the companies and individuals who donated items (such as the business tickets to New York donated by M& C Saatchi which went for £1500; the signed Harry Potter book donated by J K Rowling, which went for £1100). Over 200 people attended and our auctioneer, Albert Maslin from Faringdon, gave his time free for the event and did a terrific job in pushing up the bids. We would also like to thank the band from Reading, called "No Idea" who provided the entertainment free of charge, as well as an army of volunteers from Alcatel-Lucent, Zurich and Arval who helped on the night, Zurich who printed our posters and auction catalogues and of course our own volunteers at the MS Centre who helped considerably with the whole organisation of the event.
It was a brilliant evening, where everyone pulled together to make it so successful!
We are still looking for companies or individuals to support us by buying "A square foot" of the new building for £100 (everyone's name will be recorded in a book of thanks in the new Centre), as well as volunteers to do the "Ridgeway Walk", an overnight 20 mile walk from Avebury to Bishopstone on Saturday 21 June. Anyone wishing to have more details can contact the Centre.
